The longest championship streak in Oklahoma boys cross country history belongs to Jenks: seven consecutive 5A titles from 1988 through 1994. Seven years. In a sport where five runners score and the sixth and seventh displace, seven straight titles means seven straight years of depth — not one star, but a pipeline. That’s not luck; that’s a program.

The five-straight club has two members: Edmond, which won five consecutive 4A titles from 1979 to 1983, and Bishop McGuinness, which won five straight 4A crowns from 1995 to 1999 — bookending the decade in the same class, a passing of the torch written in team scores. The four-straight club is crowded: Tulsa Kelley in 3A (1973–1976), Sequoyah Tahlequah in 2A (2003–2006), Lincoln Christian in 4A (2014–2017), Jenks again in 6A (2012–2015), Edmond Memorial in 5A (1999–2002), and Deer Creek Edmond in 5A (2011–2014).

Notice the pattern: the streaks live in the middle classes. 4A and 5A account for most of the great runs — the big-school 6A crown has changed hands more often, and the small-school titles scatter across programs. Depth wins championships, and depth is easier to sustain where the enrollment gives you a deeper roster to draw from. That’s not a criticism of small-school programs; it’s arithmetic.

And the polls? They spent those streak years doing what polls do — ranking the streak-holder first and everyone else in various orders of wrong. A seven-year title run doesn’t need October validation. It needs five healthy runners in November, seven years running.

Seven straight. Jenks didn’t just win 5A in the late ’80s and early ’90s — they owned it, and the polls were just documenting the inevitable.
