Oklahoma 5A Cross Country Final Rankings 2019: Bishop Kelley's Girls and Guymon's Boys Brought the Hardware

The 2019 5A final polls told two different stories: total order on the girls’ side, and a mild upset on the boys’. That’s the thing about October polls — they’re a weather report, not a contract. November enforces the terms.

Girls’ poll, October 22nd: Bishop Kelley, Piedmont, Bishop McGuinness, Coweta, Guthrie. State: Bishop Kelley 25, Bishop McGuinness 107. Twenty-five points. The poll had Kelley first and the Comets responded by nearly lapping the scoring table — an 82-point margin over the runner-up.

Boys’ poll, October 7th: Piedmont, Guymon, Bishop Kelley, Santa Fe South, Tahlequah. State: Guymon 61, Piedmont 91. The poll’s No. 2 beat the poll’s No. 1 by 30 points. Not a scandal — just the gap between a ballot and a race.

The individual crowns went to Bishop Kelley’s Ella Eureste on the girls’ side and Santa Fe South’s Christian Arenivar on the boys’ side.

Bishop Kelley’s girls put up 25 — the poll predicted the winner and the meet turned it into a coronation.
